  1. VAT Tax
Visitors from outside the EU can reclaim sales tax paid (TVA or VAT) on French goods purchased (not food or beverages), if more than Euro175 is spent in one store in one day. You must get a "detaxe" reciept & form from the store. The form and reciept must be presented to customs when leaving France. The tax reimbursement will be mailed to you.

  2. Tipping Protocol
French meals usually include a "service charge" of 12.5 to 15 percent with your meal, which is like a tip in the US. It can also be called a "bread", "water" or "table" charge. Most people also leave a few Euro cents behind - 30 to 50 Euro cents is appropriate for cafes or brasseries.
